Should Exercise Hurt if You Have hEDS or HSD?
Exercise does not need to be completely sensation-free, but severe pain is not a requirement for progress either.
Use the response over time
A mild familiar symptom during exercise may be acceptable for some people if it settles and function remains stable. A major flare lasting days suggests the dose may need changing.
Different pain deserves attention
Sharp pain, a slipping or dislocation sensation, new neurological symptoms or pain after a significant injury should not simply be pushed through.
Progress requires challenge, not punishment
Strength improves when exercise becomes sufficiently demanding. The goal is to find a useful training stimulus that you can recover from and repeat.
