A strength and balance class is a structured exercise session designed to improve the physical abilities that support everyday mobility, including leg strength, balance, stepping, walking confidence and functional movement.
Who can benefit?
It can be useful for adults who feel weaker than they used to, feel less steady on their feet, want to maintain independence or simply want a more supported way to exercise. You do not need previous gym or exercise experience.
What kinds of exercises are included?
Sessions may include sit-to-stands, lower-limb strengthening, calf raises, stepping tasks, balance exercises and controlled mobility work. Exercises can be adapted to different starting abilities.
Why combine strength and balance?
Everyday movement requires both. Strength helps with stairs, chairs and walking, while balance and stepping ability help you stay controlled when turning or moving over different surfaces.
What if I am nervous about exercise?
A well-designed class should start from a manageable level and progress gradually. If you have significant medical concerns, recent surgery, repeated unexplained falls or new dizziness, individual assessment may be more appropriate before joining a group.
